The 2017 Future Leader Award Recognises Excellence in Leadership Qualities and Marketing Skills.


Inaugurated in 2013, the Award promotes the critical role future marketing leaders will play as key contributors to value creation for organisations.

The Award is presented to a marketer who has demonstrated significant thought leadership in addressing a marketing topic. Other considerations include:
>> Academic achievement
>> Career highlights, and
>> Involvement in voluntary community or professional endeavours 

2017 Key Dates


February 2017:
Entries Open
May 2017: Entries close at 5.00pm (AEST)
September 2017: Shortlisted candidates participate in face-to-face interviews with the judging panel
October 2017: The national winner will be announced at the Awards for Marketing Excellence Gala Awards Presentation.

Award Prize

The Future Leader Award winner would be rewarded with their choice of one of the following prize options, to the value of AUD$5,000, based on the recipient's career and professional development requirements during 2017:

Option One: Attendance at Australian Marketing Institute Foundation and/or Advanced workshops
Option Two: Travel expenses to attend an approved domestic and/or international marketing conference/s
Option Three: An Executive Leadership short course or equivalent residential program

In addition, the award recipient with be invited to attend an Australian Marketing Institute board meeting to participate in the annual business planning review and address the board.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. Entries are invited from all individuals, based on the eligibility criteria, irrespective of their organisations turnover, industry or location.
  2. Entrants must be 30 years of age or under as at 30 June 2017, with formal marketing qualifications and currently in a full time marketing position with between 2-5 years work experience.
  3. Shortlisted candidates will need to be available in September 2017 for face-to-face interviews with the judging panel.
  4. A 2000-word (maximum) submission will need to be provided and should contain the following:
    a. A 200-word executive summary (maximum) outlining the key points 
    b. Utilising the topic: "What do you see as the core skills of a marketer in 2020?"
    c. A personal biography including academic achievements, career highlights and voluntary community or professional experiences. 
    d. A recommendation from your senior marketing manager or equivalent.
  5. The Entry and Employer Form will need to be signed by the employer as endorsing the applicant's submission.
  6. Entries are to be submitted by the individual only and not on behalf of a client or third party.
  7. The award will be presented to the person named at the 'Nominated Person' and 'Nominated Organisation' on the Entry and Employer Approval Form.
  8. There will be one national award winner only.

Judging

Judges will be assessing the award entries based on marketers who have demonstrated a thought leadership contribution via the topic: "What do you see as the core skills of a marketer in 2020?". Other considerations include academic achievement, career highlights, and involvement in voluntary community or professional endeavours. Shortlisted candidates will also participate in a face-to-face interview with the judging panel.

The judging panel will consist of marketing practitioners from industry and academia. Judges reserve the right to withhold the Award at their discretion and the judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

1. Executive Summary  10%
2. Topic Outline - demonstration of marketing value 35%
3. Results - application of marketing techniques 35%
4. Academic achievement, career highlights, voluntary endeavours 20%

>> No alterations to award entries will be permitted after the closing date of submissions
>> The award will be presented to the person and organisation named as 'nominated person' and 'nominated organisation'

>> Judges reserve the right to withhold the Award at their discretion and the judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The Australian Marketing Institute reserves the right to use all of the material entered in the award entries for promotion of the Award. Under no circumstances shall the Australian Marketing Institute be held responsible for the payment of any royalties or other charges for the use of materials provided in support of the Award. All entries become the property of the Australian Marketing Institute on submission. No entries will be returned; therefore duplicates of all original material should be retained. No responsibility for loss or misdirection of entries will be accepted by the Australian Marketing Institute or its officers. The Australian Marketing Institute accepts no responsibility or liability for any loss of commercial privilege or any other related matters which constitutes loss or damage as a result of an entry to the 2017 Future Leader Award.
