RMIT seeks placements for marketing students

RMIT University in Victoria conducts a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program for students in its four-year marketing degree.

In the third year of their degree, students must complete a minimum of 10 months of full-time, relevant, paid employment. This aims to ensure that graduates gain real-world knowledge of the marketplace as part of their training.

In return, these students can offer companies a contemporary understanding of market research, market analysis, and brand and product management. RMIT finetunes its marketing curricula from the students’ feedback on their time in the workplace.

RMIT is seeking Victorian, metropolitan-based organisations willing to employ its marketing students in the WIL program.

Students become eligible to start their placement no later than 9 November 2007. At the completion of the 10-12 month placement, the employer has the option of offering the student a full-time position. The student must then complete their final year of studies part-time.

RMIT has about 120 students available for placement, ready to start work in late 2007 or early 2008. Positions are generally negotiated and filled from July through to December.

These students offer companies:

  • Reduced recruitment and training costs, as a large percentage of students return as full-time employees.
  • Access to high-quality students at a pre-graduate salary.
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and fresh ideas.
  • Improvement in the visibility of your organisation on campus.
  • An opportunity to influence the direction of business education.
  • An opportunity for company research.
