EVENT DATE

Thursday 13 May 2010

Join the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) in association with the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) and Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS) for a day of workshops dedicated to communications and the Net – its use and abuse.

With a focus on real tools and tactics to take back to the office, the interactive workshops will cover:

  • Online search strategies for business optimisation
  • Maximising return on social media
  • Building online communities
  • Two specialist workshops will look at specific market research and PR issues.

A keynote lunch featuring renowned futurist Charlie Nelson will follow the morning sessions along with a panel discussion and Q&A session.

After lunch, we will be repeating the popular and more in-depth AMI three-hour workshop on building online communities around your brand run by Elixir Marketing.

All workshops have limited places to get the maximum benefit from your participation, so book now to secure your place.  Note: Sessions 1 and 2 and sessions 3 and 4 will run concurrently.

Session 1: From the Inside Out

Presenter: Tony Monaghan
(more details)

Former Perth and London TV journalist and state political adviser Tony Monaghan is now Corporate Communications Manager at The Brand Agency. He draws on his internal communications consulting work with clients St John Ambulance and Rio Tinto and recent social media incidents to look at the importance of protecting your brand from the inside out.

Tony says change needs to be initiated from within — while marketing plans see businesses run "better, faster, stronger", companies must bring employees with them to avoid disgruntled staff or customers venting frustration in the media or online.

Session 2: What Google Doesn’t
Want You to Know

Presenter: Chris Bjorklund
(more details)

Ever wondered what “the big guys” do to be successful online? Google can either make or break your online campaign. Join Chris Bjorklund on an insightful journey of ‘The top 10 things that Google really doesn’t want you to know’.  He will share with you his experiences and reveal how to successfully integrate digital search marketing strategies into any online campaign.

He will answer the toughest questions and show the true value of an online marketing campaign through the use of real-life case scenarios. Prepare yourself for a fun and exciting ride into the next generation of digital search marketing.

Session 3: Google: Trash or Treasure?

Presenters: Julia Zivanovic and Glenn Jamieson (more details)

Be part of a refreshingly honest look at the myths and realities that Web 2.0 tools and channels offer for research. Julia will go through some simple tools to help obtain quality secondary research in the age of information overload from simply ‘googling’ or believing everything from a source ending in ‘....pedia’.

Julia will also outline the opportunities and constraints of potential Web 4.0 social media from a research perspective and highlight some Web 2.0 tools that can help research productivity for attendees to explore further post workshop.

Glenn will look at the issues connected with online research communities and setting up in-house research panels.

A must-not-miss workshop for those involved in market research and marketing mangers looking to understand the scope of Web 2.0 and beyond for research.

Session 4: Foursquare for Business and Location-Based Marketing

Presenter: Kristen Vang
(more details)

As a self-confessed cultural junkie with an Internet addiction, Kristen Vang is a social media strategist and consultant who helps brands build their online presence using video, podcasts, blogs, widgets, applications, social networks and more.

Kristen is the Principal Strategist at Thinq Digital in Perth. Specialising in campaign ideation, content development, online PR and community building, she has multinational experience developing and implementing digital strategy for consumer brands.

Previously, she was the Creative Director at Attention, a social media marketing and PR agency in New York, where she devised campaigns for clients such as M•A•C Cosmetics, Aveda, Bluefly.com, Hudson Jeans and Mashable.

NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the previously announced speaker, Marc Loveridge of Thinq Digital, will be unable to conduct this workshop. He has been replaced by a colleague who will present on a different topic.

Lunch: Update 2010! – What’s ahead?

Speaker: Charlie Nelson, foreseechange
(more details)

Renowned futurist Charlie Nelson will review how consumers, businesses and the media responded to the global financial crisis and discuss what we can learn from these reactions. He will also analyse important consumer trends that are a guide to future consumer needs.
