Marketing Week session, 'Five personal decisions which will impact every aspect of your marketing career' (Thursday 25 August)
At this year’s Marketing Week session hosted by Emerging Marketers, Dr James Cowley spoke about the changes of colossal proportions that are taking place and how they will affect the entirety of marketing as we know it. He asked the audience to consider five questions.
1. Is the GFC another recession or was it the start of a new age? Consumers are returning to basic needs and the desire for truth and authenticity in marketing.
2. Are we connected or are we in our own little world? Many of us socialise, work and live in the same area and group together with people who think similarly to us. How can we think outside the square if everyone is thinking in the same way as us?
3. Who do we trust for knowledge and insight? Without context we have no knowledge.
4. Where am I in relation to work/skills of the future? Will I be a routine producer, service provider or symbolic analyst?
5. Will we live a life or a half life? People these days are living into their 80s and 90s. In the past retirement meant five years maximum; now it is 30 years. What will we do with this time?
Dr James Cowley is a business creator/owner/developer, strategist, market and social researcher, innovator and trends analyst. With a long list of roles across three fields (education, health and business), James has built, grown and sold highly profitable businesses from scratch, built and led high-performing teams and consulted at senior levels to global corporations and governments. 'Battle of the Creatives', joint networking event (Thursday 25 August)
The Young Marketers Battle of the Creatives SOLD OUT event was held for the first time as part of the 2011 Marketing Week in SA. A huge audience of 165 young professionals and marketing student graduates attended an evening full of laughs and networking as some of SA's marketing greats shared their insights and opinions about some well-known and less well-known marketing industry campaigns.
VOK beverages sponsored the evening with plenty of free-flowing Three Oaks Ciders, Queen Adelaide wine and Ready to Drink beverages on offer. Thanks must go to Sputnik (Mayor of AdTown), Michelle Prak (Hughes PR), Kelly Noble (GLAM Adelaide), Paul Kitching (The Australian Traffic Network), Jamie Scott (Showpony), Jeremy Ervine (Fnuky) and Jason Neave (ViaMedia) for their support of this event. The evening wouldn't have been what is was without them!
We look forward to seeing the event grow at the 2012 Marketing Week with a bigger venue, more networking and further 'creative battles' to ensue. Keep a lookout in late June/early July 2012 as tickets will sell out quick!
