Welcome

The Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) is pleased to present the 2008 Government Marketing & Communications Conference: Collaborating for Success. The AMI Government Marketing & Communications Conference is the only conference hosted by a key industry organisation for government marketers in the Australasian region. It attracts up to 300 marketing and communication specialists from a range of local, state and federal agencies.

To help you stay ahead of the demographic and cultural changes Australia is currently experiencing, we have one of Australia’s leading social commentators, David Chalke, opening the conference this year. David will be joined by the Chairman of Grey Group Australia, Paul Gardner to present Grey’s latest Eye on Australia report.

What does the future hold for you in terms of media planning? Should you be focussed solely on digital or are traditional channels still as relevant for public agencies? Whether you’re planning major national campaigns or more locally-based grassroots activity, we’ve brought together some of the leading minds in Australian media to help you navigate the changing media landscape.

Harold Mitchell is arguably Australia’s most influential media buyer. Harold will share his insights into the future of media in this country and what current trends mean for government communications.

Other high profile presenters on the media landscape include Karim Temsamani, General Manager of Google Australia; John Sintras, CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group and Anne Parsons, CEO of MediaCom.

With an ageing workforce and a skills shortage in many parts of Australia, government recruitment is at a critical stage. Don’t miss our workshop on recruiting and retaining staff. The pre-conference workshop will commence with presentations from three leading specialists in the field.

Penny Burke from Essence Communications will demonstrate how employer branding can be applied to the public sector. Jason Dunstone from Square Holes will help you understand the needs of young professionals and give you actionable directions for your campaigns. James Wiggins, Head of Employer Branding at tmp worldwide will give you practical strategies to improve your advertising to be more appealing to potential candidates rather than merely advertising job vacancies.

The workshop will feature case studies and innovative approaches to addressing the skill shortage and includes presentations from SA Health, the WA Small Business Development Corporation and WA Police.

The conference also includes new information and examples of best practice in social marketing; targeting youth and seniors markets; different approaches to research and new media tools available to assist you with your campaigns.

I recommend the conference program to you and look forward to welcoming you to Sydney for the 11th Annual 2008 Government Marketing & Communications Conference.
