TIM FLATTERY
Director of Content, Mitchell Media
Tim Flattery has worked in the Internet space for well over a decade. In 1996 Tim launched the social forecasting and new media development firm Pophouse, working with blue chip brands including Optus, Virgin, Fairfax and The Commonwealth Bank. Prior to his appointment with Mitchell Media, Tim spent two years as head of new media and branded entertainment for Becker Entertainment working in New York, Washington and Los Angeles. Whilst in the US he developed TV & Internet TV projects for a variety of networks including Oxygen, Discovery, National Geographic, Discovery Health and Animal Planet. Tim sat on the board of The Australian Futures Foundation between 2000 - 2002. His first book Ideas Generation was published in 2001 by New Holland. Tim will take us behind the scenes of the Obama, Romney and Clinton campaigns to illustrate the future of political communication.

   


 

PAUL GARDNER
Group Chairman, Grey Worldwide Australia
Paul Gardner is Australian Group Chairman of Grey Global Group as well as part of the Asia Pacific Operating Group for Grey. Outside of Grey, Paul is the Chairman of the Melbourne Football Club and the Malthouse Theatre. He is a former Director of both Open Family and International All Sports Limited and a past Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s Advertising Industry Advisory Committee. Paul holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Monash University and a Certificate of Securities from the Melbourne Stock Exchange.

   

 

 

DAE LEVINE
Manager - Essential Research, Essential Media Communications
Dae Levine is Manager of Essential Research, the research arm of Essential Media Communications. Dae specialises in social market research for EMC’s political, union and environmental campaigns. Prior to EMC, Dae worked in the US for a range of political individuals and organisations as a communications consultant. These organisations included Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Human Rights First. She was also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, teaching courses in public sector marketing and communications. Dae holds a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College.

   


 

ANNE PARSONS
CEO, Mediacom
Anne Parsons became Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Media in 2001 where she took the opportunity to establish a Strategy business and develop an Econometric Modelling business resulting in both Glass and ROI Bureau ( Return on Investment). With the purchase of Zenith by WPP in 2005, Anne was appointed CEO of Mediacom – one of the worlds great Media brands. She is also Chairman of GroupM the biggest Media group in Australia. Anne has been a regular industry speaker and writer on and about industry issues. She has worked on multi-nationals exporting MediaCom’s strategy initiatives to Asia and UK. Anne is a certified practitioner and trainer in De Bono’s lateral thinking and Six Hats strategic process.

 

 


 

BILL SHANNON
Executive Chairman, Shannon’s Way
Bill Shannon has been in the communications industry all his working life. At the age of 26 he became the first Australian to be awarded the David Ogilvy Award for the most successful campaign for Ogilvy & Mather clients. Unlike most creative awards, it was measured by sales. He was also the first Australian to represent Australia at the inaugural David Ogilvy International Creative Conference in New York. In 1977 he was founding Partner of Scali McCabe Sloves Australia, the first international office of Scali McCabe Sloves New York (Advertising Age 'Agency of the Year' 1976 / 1977). In 1991 Bill founded Shannon's Way. Today, it is one of Australia 's foremost specialists in social marketing communications. Shannon's Way focuses on social issues such as helping problem gamblers to stop gambling, influencing employers to manage safer workplaces and, for Industry Super Funds, encouraging Australian workers to protect their retirement savings from the erosion of fees and sales commissions. Bill is a believer in giving back to the community. For over 15 years he was responsible for the summer, winter and 'Learning for Life' appeals for The Smith Family; the national advertising campaigns for The Mother's Day Classic, to raise money for breast cancer research and with Oxfam, to create their Tsunami Appeal.

   


 

JOE TALCOTT
Marketing Director, News Limited
Joe Talcott was appointed Group Marketing Director at News Limited in April 2005. He joined News after a long career as Marketing Director at McDonald’s, working in the USA, Latin America, Asia and Australia. He led development of McDonald’s global “i’m lovin it” campaign, the company’s first worldwide campaign in its 50 year history. Prior to his tenure at McDonald’s, Joe worked as General Manager of Fahlgren Advertising in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Senior Vice President of Carmichael Lynch Advertising in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Among his many career achievements, Mr Talcott was named one of BRW magazine’s “Marketers of the Year”.

   


 

PETER THOMPSON
Broadcaster
Peter Thompson is a broadcaster with ABC TV and Radio. Peter hosts the ABC TV program “Talking Heads” – a series of conversations about the lives of prominent Australians. He presented Radio National’s “Breakfast” for 8 years and the flagship current affairs program “AM” for 6 years. He is Director of the Centre for Leadership which provides communication advice to public and private sector organisations. Peter is an adjunct Professor at Macquarie University’s Department of International Communication, and is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand School of Government, teaching executive programs in communication and public policy. He is the author of several books, including Persuading Aristotle: The Timeless Art of Communication in Business, Negotiation and the Media and The Secrets of the Great Communicators. Peter holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard, an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a BA from the Australian National University.

   


 

PAUL VITTLES
Director, Urbis Keys Young
Paul is a Director at Urbis, where he carries out research and engagement projects for Federal, State and Local government, commercial clients and not-for-profits. Paul joined Urbis from ACNielsen Australia where he was Director of Public Enterprise Research. Prior to that, Paul worked in consultancy and in government in the UK, and pioneered many of the engagement tools that are now part of the mainstream. Paul believes in innovation via liberation and he will take us on a liberating journey.
