W E L C O M E The Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) is pleased to present the 2007 Government Marketing Conference: The Challenges of Change. The AMI Government Marketing Conference is the only conference hosted by a key industry organisation for government marketers in the Australasian region. It attracts up to 300 marketing and communication specialists from a range of state, federal and local government agencies. Now in its 10th successive year, the AMI Government Marketing Conference will give you new information and examples of best practice in social marketing, new media, employer branding and reaching niche markets to help you meet the challenges of cultural, social and technological change. One of our keynote speakers this year is broadcaster and social commentator, Peter Thompson. Peter is an inspired presenter and will give you new insights into how leaders communicate and strategies you can use to create change. To help you stay in front of the changing media landscape, we have a great line-up of speakers on what lies in store for the government communicators. Joe Talcott, Marketing Director at News Limited will look beyond McLuhan at a new model for media, marketers and agencies. Tim Flattery, Director of Content at Mitchell Media will share his vision for the Australian media while Anne Parsons returns to the podium once again to give you her always insightful views on media planning. Another highlight this year is our session on employer branding and recruitment. Just how effective are you at attracting and retaining the best people. Author and consultant Penny Bourke has a wealth of experience in public and private sector spheres. In her presentation, Penny will show how the collision between the skills shortage and the emergence of Generation Y has brought some clear opportunities for public service professions seeking to attract the best and brightest talent in the future. Chandler Macleod’s Simon Rowe will uncover some of the myths about the drive to be an “employer of choice”. Other keynote speakers include Bill Shannon from Shannon’s Way and Paul Gardner, Group Chairman of Grey Global Group Australia. Once again, I commend the conference program to you and look forward to welcoming you to the Gold Coast for the 10th Annual AMI Government Marketing Conference. ANDREW HOCKLEY P.S. Don’t miss the pre-conference workshop on water to find out how your colleagues in other states and agencies are tackling the communications implications of the water crisis.
